“I don’t know what to write.”
“They don’t want to read about…”
“I can’t do this!!”
Sound familiar? Are you or your child feeling stuck or overwhelmed by the college entrance essay process, or even having trouble getting started? You are not alone; we see this every year.
Admissions teams read hundreds (sometimes thousands) of personal statements each year; our goal is to help our students create one that will stand out and make them want to learn more. In this four-hour, in-person workshop, we will help students pull at the right threads to help them weave an essay draft that showcases who they are as an individual – one that shows creativity and authenticity.
Using prompts provided by Common App and pre-session questionnaires filled out by you/your child, our instructors will provide the space and time for students to develop ideas and structure their essays in collaboration with peers and professionals. Workshop sessions are limited to no more than nine participants and typically include two instructors.
One-on-one virtual follow-up sessions will help students put the finishing touches on their work with professional guidance and care. One free (25-minute) virtual session is included with this workshop.
STEP 1: RESERVE YOUR SPOT. Please review our College Essay Workshop Terms of Service before you purchase.
STEP 2: COMPLETE YOUR PRE-SESSION FORMS.
Once we receive your payment, be on the lookout for an email from us. This email will include links to our Student and Parent Intake Forms. Please fill out and submit these forms no later than 24 hours before the session starts.
STEP 3: SHOW UP READY TO CREATE.
Please arrive on time. Early is even better. You'll need a laptop or tablet, and access to GoogleDocs.
A sample schedule is below:
8:20-8:30 - Arrival & Introductions
8:30 - 9:15 - Guided Brainstorming
9:15 - 11:15 - Drafting & Sharing
11:15 - 12:30 - Individualized Feedback and Next Steps
Students are welcome to bring light snacks and beverages to be consumed during breaks. Some snacks and water will be provided as well.
STEP 4: KEEP GOING!
Keep fine-tuning the work you created in our workshop and schedule your one-on-one virtual session.
STEP 5: ATTEND YOUR VIRTUAL SESSION
Each workshop attendee receives one free 25-minute virtual follow-up session with a workshop instructor. Use this time to review your work, ask questions and determine next steps.
Additional private virtual sessions are available as an add-on. Please contact us for more information if you would like to schedule additional sessions.
